Terms & Conditions of Fostering

We are delighted you are considering fostering an animal through Loki’s Rescue.

To ensure the animal’s wellbeing and safety, we do have to ask you to read carefully, and sign up to our Terms and Conditions.

These are non negotiable, and will help ensure we are aligned on our expectations of the rescue / foster relationship.

1.      The Fostering Process starts with the signing and returning of the Fostering Terms and Conditions, and the submission of an application form. No application form will be considered until the Terms & Conditions are signed at www.lokisrescue.com/apply

2.      Every applicant whose application is approved will be homechecked.

3.      We reserve the right to withdraw the application at any time if we believe that the information provided in the application form is not correct or issues arise at any stage during the adoption process.

4.      Loki’s Rescue or their partner agencies retain legal ownership of the animal and the microchip will be registered to Loki’s Rescue and / or their partner whilst they are in foster.

5.      You agree to follow-up checks by the rescue during their foster care to ensure the animal is healthy and well cared for.

6.      You are responsible for the animal's behaviour at ALL times that it is in foster care with you.

7.      You are responsible for all food costs for the animal, unless it is on a veterinary prescribed diet, in which case the cost of the food will be paid for by the rescue.

8.      The rescue are responsible for all medical costs and behavioural intervention for the animal.

9.      Pre-authorisation on any expenditure must be obtained from the rescue. Such authorisation will not be unreasonably withheld

10.  You will exercise the  animal daily unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian.

11.  When out of the home,  all dogs will wear a collar and a harness, with leads attached to both.  The collar must have a tag with your or the rescue’s telephone number engraved on it. Dogs will not be permitted to be off lead outside the home under any circumstances unless in a secure dog walking field.

12.  Lokis Rescue do not accept responsibility for any damage caused to your home by your animal. Nor do Loki’s Rescue accept liability for any injury caused to any person or animal whilst in the care of yourself or persons associated to you where it is as a result of the foster’s neglect.

13.  You agree that the animal will not, under any circumstances, live outside.

14.  You agree that the animal will not be bred from under any circumstances.  Neutering of the animal will be the responsible of the future adopter, unless early neutering is advised by a veterinarian. Whilst in foster, the rescue will pay for the neutering or spaying of the animal if it is deemed necessary by a veterinarian.   Should the animal fall pregnant whilst it is in your care, the rescue retain the right to remove the animal from your care.

15.  Should the animal be fostered to you when already pregnant, this will be explained to you in advance and your agreement to raise the offspring will be sought. Any medical bills associated with this pregnancy and / or offspring will be the responsibility of the rescue, and the rescue will retain ownership of the resultant offspring.  These will be rehomed by the rescue at the appropriate time.

16.  If an animal that is fostered to you was pregnant at the time but not known to the rescue, the foster and the rescue will determine the appropriateness of the placement.  If the foster feels unable to take on responsibility for the care of the pregnant animal and any offspring, the rescue will find an alternative placement as a matter of priority.

17.  Any equipment supplied by the rescue to the foster will be the responsibility of the foster during the fostering relationship.  At the termination of the fostering relationship the equipment will be returned in full to the rescue. Any damages to the equipment will be paid for by the foster.

18.  The foster will keep the animal at the address declared in the application form only.

19.  The named foster carer is the only individual delegated the authority of the rescue to care for the animal.   The animal will not reside with any other individual other than the named foster carer and their family members.

20.  The foster will inform the rescue of any change in address, or change to domestic arrangements, during the foster relationship. This incudes, but is not limited to: finances, divorce, separation, bereavement, arrival of children into the household not declared at the time of application (through birth, adoption, fostering or change in domestic circumstances), fostering or adoption of additional animals not declared at the time of application.  The rescue reserve the right to reassess the foster application in light of this new information.

21.  The foster carer will report to the rescue any concerns about the animal,  medical or behavioural, immediately.

22.  The foster carer will care for the animal in line with the expectations of the Animal Welfare Act 2006

23.  If the animal is required to be transported,  the foster carer will do this at their own cost,  and ensuring that the animal is safely restrained within the vehicle at all times.

24.  The foster carer will support the rescue in finding a suitable adoptive home for the animal through the provision of:

a.      Regular assessment reports on the animal’s health and behaviours

b.      Photographs of the animal when requested (sent to the rescue)

c.       Facilitating visits from potential adopters either at the home address, or in a suitable location in order that the potential adopter will be able to get to know the animal well enough to consider adoption

25.  No photographs of the animal are to be posted anywhere on social media or the internet without the express permission of the rescue.  Depending on the circumstances of the foster arrangement this permission may be refused.

26.  The location of the animal may need to remain absolutely confidential between the foster and the rescue. In some cases the location of the animal will need to be provided to our partners. Should this be the case you will be informed prior to that information being provided.  If you are not willing for the information to be shared and it is required for legal purposes,  we will seek to urgently identify an alternative placement for the animal.
